While most of Room 5 were challenged at the Matamata Interschool Swimming Sports the rest of us busied ourselves in practising our measuring so we brewed a little something up.....

We have all been watching and waiting for the results to POP .... another week and it will be tasting time.

Junior Swimming Sports

The pool was all action on Friday the 4th of March as we demonstrated our skills learnt over the first 5 weeks of the term.
We had many stars and the children have made great progress over that time. Olivia was selected to swim at the Interschool Swimming Sports at Matamata. Well done, you are still a young swimmer so we will watch your progress with interest. Room 3 congratulates you!!!
Thank you to all the parents who braved the weather and stayed to watch the Junior Swimming Sports , however the farmers won the day with so much water .......... we all had fun swimming in the rain but this time it was the teachers who got the wettest. Soaked through and no spare clothes ... oh dear !!!!!!

Finding out the difference between Perimeter and Area.

We have moved on to finding the perimeter of an object or shape. We found out the perimeter was the distance around the outside of an object or shape. The area is the space an object or shape takes up. To test our theories we surrounded and covered different objects and estimated (guessed) the perimeter and the area of each then measured them accurately using 2cm cubes.
Mrs Brierley came into school and helped us. Thank you Mrs Brierley!!!!

Mighty Maths- Measurement.

We have been learning to measure first in non-standard measures and now we can measure accurately using centimetres and metres. We know how to start at the starting point and then read the scale on the ruler where we finish measuring!!!
We have been ordering in length and height. we found out you use different words when talking about the height form the ground and when we measure length. We have measured our hands and feet then we wanted to know who was the tallest and shortest in the class.
Can you guess who it is ?

Welcome back everyone !!!!!

Our first week back at school and we were right back into learning....
we have a new student starting with us and welcome Deon and his
family to our school. If you see Deon in the playground or out in the
community say "hi".
