Living in a Democracy

The children in Room 3 went out to vote... but not in the general election. It was our school election with the party elected running the school for a day.... yes that's right, running the school. Teachers shadowed the new classroom teachers and principal as they did duties, planned and implemented fun opportunities for the students. What a great day...... what tired new teachers we had. Thank you Tian, Hayden, William and Beckie.

Working with Wood.

At the end of last term The Parrots reading group completed power points on what they had learnt about working with wood. They investigated how to use tools and how to keep safe. This is Ruel's power point. Enjoy it.

Another Top Citizen from Room 3

Last week Danni was named top citizen for Kuranui School. Well done Danni. You give everything your best, have a great attitude to learning and are willing to help anyone who asks. Being a top citizen is about being caring, sharing and aware of others needs. You went the extra mile in our unit on Linking Hands,Linking Lives and gave up your own time to knit peggy squares with Grandma's help. You deserve top citizen and make an awesome member of Room 3.

A New Face at Kuranui School

Yogi has joined us, late last term, from Te Waoutu School and before that Whakamaru School. She is already a bit of a star at Maths in the classroom and making great progress in her reading and writing. Lovely to have you with us at Kuranui School,Yogi.

Wordles

Last term Olivia, Danni and Taylah put their considerable spelling knowledge to the test and independently created these wordles using a Web 2 tool to demonstrate their knowledge of words that use the Long u spelling pattern. Well done Girls!!!

Waikato Gym Fun

Spot the terrific gymnasts in Room3 that represented our school with the older students at the Waikato Gymnastics  Festival. Well done ladies. A special congratulations to Taylah who came 6th overall for Waikato. Rock On, Room 3!!

AG Day

Room 3 students were keen contributors and competitors to the Ag Day challenges of training and nurturing a calf or lamb. These pictures capture some of the line up of winners in the calf section. Well done everyone.

It's X- Country time again!!!!!!

After weeks of training it was time for us to test ourselves against the hill and paddock. The runners were fired up and as keen as mustard. Everyone rallied around , even the weather as it hadn't been too promising but Mrs Clark worked her magic once again. The sausage sizzle lent us a hand with the promise of food wafting in the air we did our best to be home first to try them.

Making Scarves

As part of our inquiry into "Linking Hands, Linking Lives" we have been making scarves to send to children in orphanages in Romania. We needed to learn lots of new skills to achieve this including learning to put  our ability with measuring to use,pattern making, designing and using overlockers.
We borrowed children from Room1 and Room 5 to ensure a good fit for everyone. NZ Post shop in Putaruru has offered to help us send our items to America where a christian agency will take them to Romania in time for Christmas. Thank you all for helping us to help others.

Supporting the mighty ALL BLACKS

The day was clear and bright as we gathered on the grassy field, with the rest of the school, in the heart of the mighty Waikato to support the ALL BLACKS for the opening game of the World Cup.  The crowd roared, the earth shook, sweat poured down faces and we raised the roof for them.GO TEAM !! The heartbeat of the school is with you!!

Waiomou Stream Planting Term 2

The long awaited digital storyboard that has been evasive at being loaded to the blog!!! Always relentless with ICT challenges I have figured out a way to get it up on the blog!!! Success at last and boy doesn't taste great. This had the ICT facilitator stumped too but with a little bit of moving between programmes and files it is here.

Topic Term 3

Room 3 has identifed how we can make our school a " Better Place". First we removed rubbish from along the stream bank, built up the existing gardens and are planning to create a new look garden area for the school along the eastern boundary. The children have been busy investigating the plants that would best suit the area given, what we use the area for and keeping in mind the sustainability of the project for the school. The needs and ease of management for the caretaker also needed to be thought through.Plans have been made and when these are finalised they will be presented to the board by our Enviro Group members for Room 3 Well done team!!

Mighty Maths

This term we are investigating Geometry and have been exploring 2-D and 3-D shapes, sorting them by sides and corners for 2-D shapes then faces, edges, curved surfaces and vertices for 3-D shapes. We used tri-venn diagrams to help us sort these.  It was challenging but fun!!

Winter Sports

Thanks to all those great parents who supported our sports teams over the winter. We have enjoyed some great victories and had a fabulous time. Thank you from all the children in Room 3.

Visitors in Room 3

Yesterday we welcomed some fluffy friends to Room 3 .... Katija brought her favourite friends to school. We have  heard stories of Mary who had a lamb that followed her to school but we were surprised when Katija arrived with some pet ducks following along behind her.
The Peking ducklings are 3 weeks old and cute and cuddly. Katija tells us they haven't flown in 800 years and originate from China. She has trained them to follow her , cuddle her and they have been known to sleep on her back when she lays on the floor. Well done Katija... but she has a lamb for Ag day. You love your animals Katija.
She feeds them duck pellets and treats of spinach, mung beans and tasty stuff!. They are three weeks old now and Mum has promised to let them visit when they get their feathers in about another three weeks.

WALT: Identify and use texture in our artworks.

We have explored how artists use texture in art to make artworks come alive!!! As a class we learned how to suggest texture in art and how to apply it to our artwork. First we experimented the use of techniques with pencil and paint to suggest texture then we explored how we could apply it in our own. You will be impressed!!!

A New Face at Kuranui School

Welcome to a new Year 4 student who has arrived at Kuranui School. Mukhtar and his family have come to work on a farm in the district. Mukhtar has already made great friends in the class and has been eager to join in the learning and fun in Room 3. What a great start to learning at Kuranui School!!!!

What a great job you have done!!!!

Farewell to Mrs Goodwin who has been a star teacher aide in Room 3, helping to implement change and growth in our learners. You have made a difference to all the children you have helped over the last 18 months. Thank you from us all in Room 3, we have enjoyed your company.

Great to know we will still be seeing your smiling face each morning as we get on board the bus to bring us to school.

Marae Visit

Once again Kuranui School set off to the Marae to enjoy their famous hospitality and welcome. After a powhiri we began some of the awesome activities that were arranged for us. Poi making, legends, bushwalks, sketching, carving, flax weaving, photography and traditional maori games. Boy ! We were busy and we slept like logs at night after a great game of spotlight and karaoke.

We took all the staff, even the cleaner and we all had such good time. Lots of parents joined us as supporters, tutors and for a magnificent meal in the evening. It was great to see everyone there.

On the hunt for information for our unit on Rights/ Roles and Responsibilities unit in term 4, our intrepid teacher set out for unknown lands in Australia to see what it was like to be a convict in The Sydney Barracks. She tried the food, got put in irons and saw where they lived, how they spent their day and Patrick tried out the beds for size. Just as well he was a jockey and only 5foot tall as they were very tiny. No room to roll over that's for sure!!!
